Disposable cameras vs a QR code photo album

Disposable cameras on the tables are a wedding classic. A QR code photo album does the same job with the phones guests already carry. Here is how the two compare on cost, effort and what you get back.

By the Picsylo team · Last updated:

In short
  • A disposable camera holds 27 shots and needs developing. A QR album takes as many photos and videos as your plan’s storage allows.
  • Cameras for ten tables usually cost well over $100 before developing. A Picsylo album costs $9.99 or $19.99 in total.
  • Film has a look that phones do not. If you love it, put a few cameras out and use a QR album for everything else.

Working out the real cost of disposable cameras

The price on the box is only part of it. To estimate your total:

  1. Count one camera per table, plus a few spares.
  2. Multiply by the price per camera where you live. In the US in 2026 single-use film cameras typically sell for somewhere between $15 and $25 each.
  3. Add developing and scanning for each camera. Labs usually charge a similar amount again per roll.

For ten tables that puts most couples well above $100 for the cameras and a similar sum for the lab, for at most 270 frames. Ask your local lab for a quote before you commit, because prices vary a lot by country.

A QR code photo album has a fixed price. With Picsylo that is $9.99 for a small event or $19.99 for a full wedding, however many guests take part.

When disposable cameras are still worth it

Film photos have a charm that is hard to fake, and a physical camera on the table is a nice object in itself. If that is what you want, the sensible setup is a handful of cameras for the film look and a QR code album as the main way to collect photos. You get the nostalgia without depending on it for coverage.

Frequently asked questions

Is a QR code photo album cheaper than disposable cameras?

In almost every case, yes. Disposable cameras are priced per camera and again per roll for developing, while a Picsylo album is a single payment of $9.99 or $19.99 for the whole event.

How many photos does a disposable camera take?

Most single-use film cameras have 27 exposures.

Can I use both at my wedding?

Yes. A sensible setup is a few film cameras for the look, and a QR code album to collect the phone photos and videos guests take anyway.
